UAlbany - 100 Division I Conference Championships
ALBANY, N.Y. – With the softball team winning the America East championship today, the University at Albany has earned 100 conference titles since joining the Division I ranks in 1999.
UAlbany boasts 93 America East Tournament titles, six Northeast Conference season titles in football and one MAAC Tournament title in women's golf.
“Congratulations to Coach Cannata and our softball team on winning the America East championship; everyone of our sports programs has contributed to the 100 championships we have won over the last 15 years,” said UAlbany director of athletics Mark Benson. “That is reflective of a strong broad based athletic department. It takes tremendous effort by our student athletes and coaches; and shows the commitment to UAlbany athletics from our campus leadership. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff that have made this achievement possible.”
In addition, 46 UAlbany teams have qualified for NCAA Tournament appearances in its DI history, including 43 automatic qualifiers and three at-large bids.
UAlbany's first conference championship in the DI era came in 2002 with the football team winning the Northeast Conference title under coach Bob Ford. Roberto Vives coached the men's track & field indoor and outdoor teams to the program's first America East Tournament titles that year. UAlbany's first NCAA Tournament appearance came later that spring as the men's lacrosse team won the 2003 America East Tournament title under coach Scott Marr.
Since the 2002-03, UAlbany baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, field hockey, football, women's golf, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's indoor/outdoor track & field, women's indoor/outdoor track & field, women's tennis and volleyball have all added conference titles.
This year, UAlbany boasts nine America East Tournament titles, tied for the most in one season for the program. Men's soccer and women's soccer won in the fall, women's basketball, men's indoor track & field and women's indoor track & field earned tournament titles in the winter and men's lacrosse, men's outdoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field and softball notched tournament titles in the spring.Conference Championships by Team:
