Baseball Reschedules, Slated For Three vs. Hofstra In Virginia
ALBANY, N.Y. – Following a stretch that saw six consecutive games get cancelled due to inclement weather, the University at Albany baseball team will scrap together a three-game series with Hofstra in Virginia starting on Saturday.
Both UAlbany and Hofstra were scheduled to play in the three-day Fordham Tournament this weekend, but Winter Storm Stella prevented the games from beign played as originally scheduled. Facing the possibility of going nearly two weeks without playing a game, UAlbany and Hofstra came to an agreement to take a trip south, outside the influence of the winter weather, for a three-game set.
The game cancellations began with the second half of a four-game series at NYIT. That series had already been moved up by a day to avoid the weather, but the second double header had to be cancelled anyway. A single game against Central Connecticut State, at the front end of the storm, was preemptively cancelled, as was the Fordham Tournament when it became clear that the field would not be ready in time.
A total of six of UAlbany first 15 games have been cancelled so far this season, but the Great Danes added three this weekend to make up for it. After playing Hofstra, the team will continue its month-long road trip when they play a double header at St. Peter’s on Tuesday, March 21. Next weekend, UAlbany will begin conference play with a three-game set at UMBC.
