BOSTON – University at Albany pitcher Jack McClure has been named America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference offices announced Tuesday. McClure shares the award with Player of the Week Chris Sharp, and Rookie of the Week John Polichetti, both from UMass Lowell.
McClure made one start in UAlbany’s weather shortened schedule last week, which saw the Great Danes play just two of four scheduled games against NYIT. In the first game of the double-header against the Bears, McClure pitched a no-hitter through his 5.0 innings of work, striking out five and giving up just one walk. UAlbany won the game 8-1.
McClure earns UAlbany’s second consecutive weekly award, following Marc Wangenstein, who last week was named Rookie of the Week. The Great Danes were scheduled to play one game on Wednesday against Central Connecticut State, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The weekend tournament at Fordham is similarly up in the air, but if played the Great Danes will face Fordham on Friday, Hofstra on Saturday, and Sacred Heart on Sunday.
