ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s soccer program will play its second of two straight home games on Monday night when they welcome visiting St. Bonaventure to Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
Last time out, the Great Danes (2-1-0) hosted Harvard, falling behind and coming back twice before forcing overtime with the game tied 2-2. It was UAlbany’s second consecutive game featuring overtime, and sixth in their last 10. In the 100th minute on Friday night, senior Carlos Clark scored the game-winning goal after being set up by Nico Solabarrieta to defeat the Crimson 3-2.
Solabarrieta’s assist on Clark’s game-winner was the 16th of his career, setting a new program record in the category and breaking a three-way tie with Stephen Hall and former teammate Afonso Pinheiro. Friday’s victory was also goalkeeper Danny Vitiello’s 25th, putting him in a tie for most in program history with Trevor Serraro.
St. Bonaventure last played at Hartford, scoring two second-half goals to defeat the Hawks 2-0. It was the Bonnies’ first victory of the season after falling at #6 Louisville in their season opener and tying Robert Morris after a scoreless, double-overtime affair.
Through three games, UAlbany is currently tied for third in the America East, behind undefeated UMBC and preseason conference favorite UMass Lowell. New Hampshire and Vermont have also earned 2-1-0 records to this point.
Following the game against St. Bonaventure, UAlbany will play nine of its next 11 games on the road, and will not return to Tom & Mary Casey Stadium until September 21 to open America East play against Stony Brook.
