BOSTON – University at Albany junior Daniel Krutzen has been named America East Fall Scholar-Athlete for men’s soccer, the conference offices announced Tuesday. Krutzen is one of six student-athletes be honored.
Krutzen, a midfielder from Lanaken, Belgium, earned a 3.77 GPA studying Business with a minor in Economics. He led the team with seven assists in 2017, a mark that also topped the America East, and ranked third on the team with four goals and 15 points.
Krutzen was one of the best players in the country in 2017, earning myriad awards for his performance on the field. He was named America East First Team All-Conference, America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player, United Soccer Coaches All-East First Team, and United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team. Academically, Krutzen was named America East All-Academic, United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East, and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America First Team.
The 2017 Great Danes won their second consecutive America East title, defeating UMass Lowell in double-overtime. UAlbany went on to defeat Maryland in the first round of the NCAA tournament, before falling at Western Michigan in the tournament’s second round.
