ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany junior Daniel Krutzen has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, the organization announced Monday. Krutzen is the first Great Dane to earn the honor this season, and the first to do so since teammate Afonso Pinheiro was named following the team’s victory over Boston College in the second round of the 2016 NCAA tournament.
Krutzen, who hails from Lanaken, Belgium, scored UAlbany’s lone goal in a 1-0 victory over UMass Lowell, the first America East opponent UAlbany has faced this season. Krutzen collected a rebound off a header attempt from Nico Solabarrieta and placed the ball in the back of the net to notch what would prove to be the game-winning score.
Krutzen returned to action Saturday against UMass Lowell after sitting out the previous two games. Despite his absence, he continues to lead the America East with six assists, and has scored a point in six of the seven games this season in which he has appeared.
The Great Danes will play their next two games on the road, Tuesday at LIU Brooklyn and Saturday at Vermont, before hosting New Hampshire on Wednesday, October 11.
