Men's Soccer Visits Harvard
ALBANY, N.Y. – Finally securing the first road win of the 2017 season, the University at Albany men’s soccer team (5-2-0) will play on the road for the second consecutive game on Sunday when they pay a visit to Harvard.
The Great Danes played four of their first six games at home, but dropped its first two games on the road, falling 3-2 at Marist and 1-0 at St. Bonaventure. Determined to right the ship, UAlbany defeated Lafayette 1-0 in overtime to claim victory on the road for the first time this season. It was the fifth game in the series between the Great Danes and the Leopards, and all five have been decided by a final score of 1-0.
For the second consecutive game, a Great Dane scored his first career goal to give UAlbany the victory. Against American, redshirt senior Kaz Boschen’s volley in 88th minute sealed UAlbany’s 3-1 win, and against Lafayette, sophomore Adam Malekos redirected a shot from senior Afonso Pinheiro into the back of the net to clinch the overtime victory.
Harvard’s most recent game, scheduled to be played against Rhode Island, was postponed to a later date. The last time the Crimson took the field was September 16 in a defeat at Boston University.
Harvard is the second first-time opponent the Great Danes have faced this season. The first was America, whom UAlbany defeated 3-1 at home.
Following the Harvard game, there are two remaining non-conference opponents on UAlbany’s regular season schedule. However, Harvard is the final non-conference opponent UAlbany will play before the America East conference schedule begins on Saturday, September 30 when the Danes host preseason America East favorite UMass Lowell at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
