BOSTON – The University at Albany men’s soccer team had five players selected to receive All-Conference accolades for the 2019 regular season, the America East announced Friday.

Representing UAlbany on the All-Conference First Team were Austin DaSilva and Konstantinos Louvaris. Adam Malekos earned a spot on the Second Team and Bjarki Leósson was named to the All-Rookie Team. Andreas Assiotis was UAlbany’s representative on the All-Academic team.

DaSilva, a sophomore forward from Brookfield, Connecticut had a stellar first season as a Great Dane leading the team and America East with 12 goals and 25 points. Half of his goals this season were game-winners and ranks first nationally. The sophomore also entered the program’s record book, ranking second all-time in the Division I era in goals in a single season.

Louvaris, a senior midfielder from Nicosia, Cyprus was the anchor to the UAlbany midfield this season. The senior has played in all 16 games, having the fourth most minutes on the team. The Nicosia, Cyprus native also tallied his first assist as a Great Dane in the 3-1 victory over Vermont earlier this season.

Malekos, a senior defender from Ottawa, Canada led a Great Dane defense that ranked third in the conference with a 1.19 goals against average. The senior has started in every single game the past three years making him the only player in that time to start every game in that span, and has played almost every single minute this season.

Leósson, a freshman defender from Reykjavik, Iceland started in all 16 games, tallying an assist. The assist was a huge setting up DaSilva’s game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory over #14 New Hampshire this season.

Assiotis, a senior midfielder from Nicosia, Cyprus earned his first All-Academic selection. The senior boasts a 3.62 GPA while studying Business Administration. Assiotis has also been an integral piece to the Great Dane offense tallying a goal against Vermont and a key assist on DaSilva’s game-winning goal in the victory against #14 New Hampshire.

The 2019 major award winners will be announced Monday, November 11 at 2 pm.

UAlbany will return to the field on Saturday, hosting UMass Lowell in the America East quarterfinals at 3 pm. To get tickets, CLICK HERE.
