Short Story: The University at Albany men’s soccer team fell short to Binghamton on Wednesday 1-0 in its regular season finale and clinched the four seed in the America East tournament.
Coach Gorman: “Of course we’re disappointed with the result tonight, we wanted to finish the regular season with a win. At this time of year there’s no time to focus on anything but what’s in front of us so we will get ready for Saturday now.”
UAlbany outshot Binghamton 4-2.
The Great Danes had two shots on goal to the Bearcats’ one.
UAlbany had four corner kick opportunities to Binghamton’s two.
The University at Albany men’s soccer team came up short in its regular season finale to Binghamton by a score of 1-0 Wednesday night.
With Hartford defeating UMass Lowell, the Great Danes clinched the four seed in the tournament and will take on the fifth seeded Riverhawks in the quarterfinal matchup of the tournament on Saturday.
In the first half, neither team tallied a shot on goal. The Great Danes had two corner kicks in the half, but were not able to convert on the opportunities.
In the second half, Austin DaSilva had a chance taking a shot in the 62nd minute that went just high over the Bearcats’ goal. DaSilva had another opportunity in the 78th minute but the Binghamton goalie was able to make the save.
Andrew McDonnell scored the lone goal of the game and for the Bearcats in the 88th minute on a shot that went low left, and was able to beat Micheal Kennedy.
The fourth seeded Great Danes will host fifth seeded UMass Lowell in the America East quarterfinals on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
