Coach Gorman: “Today was a back and forth battle. Both teams created some good chances. We had good moments where we looked dangerous but also periods where we need to improve. It’s still early and all eyes are turned to Marist on Wednesday now.”
The University at Albany men’s soccer team played Quinnipiac to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, closing out its three-game home stand.
In the first half, Quinnipiac had an early penalty kick opportunity in the sixth minute, but Hjerten made the save.
Quinnipiac got on the board first in the seventh minute when Romain Daniellou took the Bobcats’ second shot of the game and was able to beat Hjerten.
The Great Danes responded quickly tying the game up at one when Guerra took a shot in front of the box and was able to score.
In the second half, neither team was able to score. The Great Danes had eight corner kicks opportunities to Quinnipiac’s two, but were unable to get anything across. UAlbany ended up outshooting the Bobcats in the half, and Hjerten had six saves.
Both teams had its opportunities in the first and second overtime, which saw a total of five yellow cards and a red card against Quinnipiac. The Great Danes were unable to capitalize on it, and both teams finished in a 1-1 tie.
The Great Danes will hit the road Wednesday and take on Marist. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
