Isac Hjerten picked up his first win in goal for the Great Danes, tallying three saves.
Coach Gorman: "Tonight was a great result against a very good Colgate team. Getting a goal so early is a big boost in any game and allowed us to settle in to play some really good stuff in the first half. In the second half we did well to preserve a shutout, but there’s still a lot to work on so early in the season. We are looking forward to Sunday.”
The University at Albany men’s soccer team secured its first win of 2019, shutting out Colgate by a score of 3-0 Thursday night.
The Great Danes got off to a quick start, having a penalty kick opportunity in the second minute. Austin DaSilva took advantage of it, and gave UAlbany a 1-0 lead. The goal was the second of the season for DaSilva, and both have come off of penalty kicks.
UAlbany took a 2-0 lead in the sixth minute, after DaSilva had the ball and found Hafliði Sigurðarson.in front of the box, who then was able to beat the Colgate goalkeeper.
The Great Danes closed out the scoring in the first half in the 35th minute, when Sam Philip passed to Kaio DaSilva in front of the box, and was able to score making it 3-0.
The Raiders had more corner kick opportunities than the Great Danes in the first and second half, but were unable to score. Colgate had more shots in the second, but were not able to get anything past Hjerten and the UAlbany defense.
