BOSTON – The University at Albany men’s soccer program has been selected sixth in the preseason America East coaches’ poll, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Great Danes have won the America East regular season or tournament title three times in the past four seasons, and have advanced to eight straight America East Tournaments.
Defending conference champion New Hampshire was predicted first with 47 points and five first place votes, Stony Brook in second with 40 points and three first place votes, UMBC and UMass Lowell tied in third with 34 points.
Right above UAlbany in fifth was Vermont with 28 points, and rounding out the rest of the conference was Binghamton in seventh with 11 points and Hartford in eighth with nine.
This year’s team will return 10 letter-winners from last season, and 13 newcomers. The returners are highlighted by 2018 All-Rookie honorees sophomore defender Sam Philip and sophomore midfielder Hafliði Sigurðarson.
UAlbany will begin its 2018 campaign at Kentucky on Friday, August 30. The team will then have one more road contest at Cincinnati on Monday, September 2 before its home opener on Friday, September 6 against Providence.
