NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former University at Albany goalkeeper Danny Vitiello signed with Nashville SC of the United Soccer League Tuesday. Vitiello was one of two signings made by the club.
Vitiello just completed his senior season at UAlbany, leading the team to an 8-10 overall record and a berth into the America East quarterfinals. Vitiello ranks as one of the best goalkeepers in program history, finishing his career with 60 appearances and over 5,000 minutes played. His career record was 31-23-6, making him the winningest goalkeeper in program history. He ranks in the top-five in program history in all goalkeeper stats, including a program record 24 shutouts, while recording 221 saves, a 0.97 goals against average, and a .784 career save percentage.
Vitiello is the second UAlbany player in as many years to join a professional roster in America, following former teammate Afonso Pinheiro who was drafted by D.C. United last season.
Nashville SC, founded in 2016, played its debut season in the United Soccer League in 2018, going 12-9-13 to finish eighth in the Eastern Conference. The club was eliminated from playoff contention in the conference quarterfinals.
