Men's Soccer Visits New Hampshire
ALBANY, N.Y. – The season-long four-game road trip for the University at Albany men’s soccer team continues Friday with a trip to New Hampshire. The Wildcats were picked second in the America East preseason poll.
The Great Danes (3-7-0, 0-2-0 AE) last visited Hartford, their opponent from the 2016 America East title game. Against the Hawks, UAlbany suffered its fourth-straight loss, dropping the game 1-0. Each of UAlbany’s losses this season has come by one goal.
New Hampshire last hosted Harvard, defeating the Crimson 1-0. Entering the week, the Wildcats ranked #23 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll, but fell out of the latest rankings after falling at Binghamton 2-1.
Last season, the Wildcats earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament after being eliminated in the America East Tournament by UMass Lowell. New Hampshire rolled off two victories, over Fairfield in the First Round and over 17-seed Dartmouth in penalty kicks in the Second Round, before falling in the Round of 16 to 2-seed Indiana.
Each of the last two games between UAlbany and New Hampshire has been decided by a final score of 2-1 and featured a come-from-behind victory in the final 10 minutes. UAlbany trailed 1-0 at New Hampshire in 2016 before scoring in the 84th and 90th minutes to claim victory, while last year the Wildcats trailed 1-0 before scoring in the 80th and 87th minutes to win the game.
Through two conference games, UAlbany is currently eighth in the America East standings, tied in conference games with UMBC but trailing the Retrievers by overall record. New Hampshire ranks third, in a four-way tie in-conference with UMass Lowell, Vermont, and Hartford, but shares the conference lead for overall victories with Vermont.
Following the game against the Wildcats, UAlbany will play one final game on the road, at American, before returning home to host Vermont on Friday, October 12.
