ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany cross country program has announced its competition schedule for the 2019 season. The schedule consists of eight meets, two of which will be contested on UAlbany’s home course.
“I’m happy with the schedule, and like the way the it works,” said head coach Matt Jones. “I think it meets the needs of both our developmental and top-end kids. Having two weeks between each meet allows for a nice training cycle between meets. It goes from being less intense to more intense, and is a nice segue from summer training into what our goals are by the time we get to the postseason for conference and regionals. We’re excited to host the Pre-Conference and Conference meets, and I hope it’s an advantage for our kids. Other than that, we’re waiting to get going, see where we’re at, and go from there.”
Highlighting the 2019 schedule is the America East XC Championships, which will be hosted at UAlbany for the first time since 2011. The women’s team and Hannah Reinhardt are defending team and individual champions, respectively. The championship meet will be held on November 2.
The season begins with a short trek to crosstown rival Siena on September 7. Two weeks later, the Danes will visit Boston for the only time during the season to participate in the Battle in Beantown at Franklin Park.
October starts with the Paul Short Invitational on the fifth. Two weeks later, UAlbany will host its annual invitational, renamed last year for program founder R.K. Munsey. The same day, October 18, is the Pre-National meet at Terre Haute, Indiana, the site of NCAA XC Championships on November 23.
The America East XC Championships on November 2 lead into NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Buffalo on November 15. Qualifiers will advance to NCAA XC Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. the following week.
