UAlbany Sports Information   08-26-2019

NEW ORLEANS – The University at Albany women’s cross country team, defending America East champions, are ranked 12th in the 2019 USTFCCCA Preseason Northeast Regional Poll.  It matches their highest-ever regional preseason ranking from 2014.

The Great Danes topped out at 10th last season in the penultimate regional rankings before finishing 14th in the Northeast Regional Championship.  They matched their highest-ever regional ranking in program history, previously ranking 10th in the final poll of the 2013 season.

Defending regional champion Columbia leads the Northeast region, followed by Dartmouth, Boston College, Iona, and Syracuse.  Within the America East, UMass Lowell ranks 13th and New Hampshire ranks 15th.

UAlbany returns its first-ever male or female individual cross country champion in Hannah Reinhardt who has her senior-year eligibility remaining.  Reinhardt placed first in four of six races last year, and finished the season 23rd at the Northeast Regional Championships.

Reinhardt leads a group of runners that includes four of the top five scorers from last year’s championship meet, including 10th-place finisher Holly Machabee, 11th-place finisher Kaylah Quarshie, and 17th-place finisher Kelly Iocca.  The Danes lose their #2 runner from 2018 in Cara Sherman, who will return to the team for the outdoor season but has exhausted her cross country eligibility.  Joining the team in Sherman’s place will be six newcomers.

The Great Danes will host the 2019 America East XC Championship on November 2.
