BOSTON - University at Albany senior Cara Sherman has been named America East All-Academic, the conference offices announced Thursday. It is her second-straight All-Academic selection for cross country, and her third overall selection.
A total of 22 student-athletes, 11 men and 11 women were named All-Academic for the cross country season. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must hold a 3.30 GPA or higher and be a regular contributor to their team during the current season.
Sherman, a local product from Rotterdam, N.Y., was the second runner on the women’s cross country team this season. She finished the season with a personal-best 17:36.6 for 5K which she ran at the America East XC Championships. Her time, which was good for seventh place in the meet and All-Conference First Team honors, ranks tied for fifth in program history with Jessica Ortman (’06).
In the classroom, Sherman has accumulated a 3.90 GPA studying Mathematics and Biology. She was also the recipient of the America East’s Elite 18 Award for women’s cross country this season, awarded to the top finisher in the championship race with the highest GPA.
Sherman is also the school-record holder in the women’s indoor track 3,000m. The UAlbany track season starts with one meet before the holiday break before kicking off in earnest following the New Year.
