BOSTON – University at Albany junior Hannah Reinhardt has been named America East Performer of the Week for women’s cross country, the conference offices announced Wednesday. It is Reinhardt’s fourth weekly award this season in four races. She was named alongside Vermont’s Matt Hynes, who was named Men’s Performer.
Reinhardt last competed at the R.K. Munsey UAlbany XC Invitational. She won the Bobbi Palma Women’s Championship 5K in 17:12.7 to set a new course record, clearing the field by nearly 50 seconds. Additionally, Reinhardt became just the second woman in the race’s history to win back-to-back individual titles, following Dartmouth’s Dorcus DenHartog in 1984-85.
Reinhardt further led the Great Danes to the overall team title. The team placed all five scorers in the top seven for a total of 19 points, one point shy of the all-time best team performance in race history. Cara Sherman placed second overall, marking the third time this season that Reinhardt and Sherman have finished 1-2 in three opportunities this season when they have both been in the competition field.
Next up for UAlbany is a return trip to UMass Lowell’s home course at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, N.H. for the America East XC Championships on October 27. Earlier this season, Reinhardt won the America East Pre-Conference Meet on that course, setting the school 5K record as measured by average mile time.
