NEW ORLEANS – The University at Albany women’s cross country team earned the #15 ranking in the Week 1 Northeast Regional poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday. The women fell two spots from their position in the preseason poll two weeks ago.
Providence led an unchanged top three in Week 1, followed by Syracuse and Dartmouth. Cornell and Yale, fourth and fifth respectively, swapped positions from where they were in the preseason poll. Around the America East, New Hampshire fell one spot to 10th, while Vermont jumped into the poll for the first time this season at 14th.
The Great Danes most recently won the America East Pre-Conference meet at UMass Lowell, behind an all-time best cumulative performance of 17:50.6 for 5K. The women were led by Hannah Reinhardt, whose 17:02.0 finishing time represents a new XC school record at the 5K distance.
After two straight weeks of racing, the Great Danes have the next three weeks off before they race again, at Lehigh Univeristy’s Paul Short Run on September 29.
