BOSTON – The America East announced the 2017 men’s and women’s cross country All-Academic selections Wednesday. The University at Albany landed two student-athletes, Cara Sherman and Kyle Gronostaj among the overall group of 20. Both Sherman and Gronostaj are local products.
Sherman, a junior from Rotterdam, N.Y., earned her first All-Academic selection. She has accumulated a 3.90 GPA studying Mathematics and Biology. Sherman was the women’s second runner all season, and earned All-Conference honors at the America East XC Championships.
Gronostaj, a senior from East Greenbush, N.Y., earned his third All-Academic selection, having previously been named for 2017 indoor track and 2016 cross country. Gronostaj, who has accumulated a 3.47 GPA studying Business, was the men’s second runner this season, until the final two meets where he finished first among UAlbany competitors. He was an All-Conference selection for the second consective season and was this year’s men’s cross country Elite 18 recipient, designating the student-athlete with the highest GPA among the top finishers at conference championships.
With the cross country season now concluded, attention turns to the beginning of the indoor track & field season which will commence in a few weeks before the holiday break, and then start in earnest after the new year.
