UAlbany Sports Information   07-26-2017

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany athletics department has announced its Hall of Fame Class of 2017 inductees: Geir Gudmundsen, Alyssa Lotmore, Jamar Wilson and the 2005-06 UAlbany men’s basketball team.

“We are proud to induct such a distinguished class to the UAlbany Athletic Hall of Fame this year.  The entire group exemplifies the success this institution has had since moving to Division I seventeen years ago.  The evening promises to be a wonderful celebration,” commented UAlbany Athletic Director Mark Benson.

The inductees will be honored at a dinner at the SEFCU Arena on October 20th and recognized at the UAlbany football game vs. Maine on October 21st.  For more information, contact the UAlbany ticket office at 518-442-DANE.

GEIR GUDMUNDSEN – FOOTBALL – 2001-04
One of the best offensive linemen in the nation, Gudmundsen helped UAlbany win a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) titles in 2002 and 2003, the former being the program’s first Division I championship.  A three-time All-NEC First Team offensive tackle, he was an American Football Coaches Association First Team offensive lineman, blocking for a line that helped UAlbany gain 254.7 rushing yards a contest that season.  In his last three seasons, UAlbany had a 1,000-yard rusher each year.  UAlbany went 26-18 in his four years, including 21-7 in NEC play.  He later signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills into the National Football League.

ALYSSA LOTMORE – WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD – 2003-07
Leading the distance program during her four-year tenure, Lotmore contributed to three consecutive America East Outdoor team championships for UAlbany from 2005-07. Lotmore was a two-time America East individual champion, sweeping the 3,000m and 5,000m at the America East Indoor Championships in 2007. Further, Lotmore earned All-Conference accolades at all four indoor championships, as well as in her freshman season in cross country and twice at outdoor championships. Upon her graduation, Lotmore held five school records: indoors in the mile, 3,000m, and 5,000m, and outdoors in the 3,000m and 5,000m. As of 2017, Lotmore holds top-10 rankings in seven indoor and outdoor events and holds top-15 marks at both 5K and 6K for cross country.

JAMAR WILSON – MEN’S BASKETBALL – 2002-07
The all-time leading scorer in UAlbany men’s basketball history, Wilson, a two-time America East Player of the Year and a two-time Associated Press All-American, led the Great Danes to their first two America East Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.  Averaging 18 points a game, Wilson finished his career with 2,164 points, top-10 in America East history, off 699 field goals and 601 free throws, each Division I UAlbany records.  Wilson led the Great Danes in scoring all four years playing, helping UAlbany go a combined 44-21 in his final two years, including a 32-6 record against America East competition.  Wilson later played for the Finland National Team and has played professionally in Australia and across Europe.

2005-06 UALBANY MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM
The 2005-06 UAlbany men’s basketball team earned the program’s first-ever America East Tournament and NCAA Tournament automatic berth in the Division I era.  Under head coach Will Brown, UAlbany went 21-11 and 13-3 in the America East, defeating all three America East Tournament opponents by double digits, capped by an 80-67 victory over Vermont in the title game at home.  America East Player of the Year Jamar Wilson led UAlbany with 17.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists a game, with Brent Wilson and Kirsten Zoellner joining him on the America East All-Conference Teams.  In the NCAA First Round, UAlbany nearly became the first 16-seed ever to knock off a 1-seed, leading UConn by 12 with 12 minutes left before falling 72-59 to the Huskies.
