GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The University at Albany women’s lacrosse team landed two players on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Northeast Regional Second Team. Juniors Madison Conway and Sam Tortora earned the honor for their performances during the 2019 season.
Conway, an attack from Wantagh, N.Y., was named 2019 America East Offensive Player of the Year. She scored 41 goals with 18 assists and ranked second in the team with 59 points. Conway made 14 starts and appeared in all 18 games, scoring four or more goals in four games, including six in the America East semifinal game against New Hampshire.
Tortora, a midfielder from North Syracuse, N.Y., led UAlbany with 63 points and 41 assists, earning America East All-Conference First Team honors. Tortora set the UAlbany career record for assists with her 84th in the regular-season game against New Hampshire, setting up Conway for the game-winning goal with 12 seconds left.
The women’s lacrosse team advanced to their ninth-straight America East title game behind first-year head coach Katie Rowan. They met Stony Brook in the final for the eighth-straight season, falling to the Seawolves in the championship game 21-7. The 2019 Great Danes’ roster did not feature a single senior, and the entire starting lineup is projected to return next season.
