Zapolski named America East Rookie of the Week
ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany freshman attacker Kyla Zapolski is the America East Rookie of the Week in women’s lacrosse, the league announced Monday.
Zapolski, a native of Bayport, N.Y., scored two goals and added an assist this past Saturday in the Great Danes’ 14-5 victory over UMass Lowell.
For the season, Zapolski has 15 goals and four assists. Her 30 draw controls are third-most on the team. She also has picked up 11 ground balls.
This marks the fifth consecutive week a UAlbany women’s lacrosse student-athlete has won the award. Freshman midfielder Kendra Harbinger had won the past four.
UAlbany, which has won six in a row overall and five straight to start America East play, is host to No. 20 Notre Dame, of the Atlantic Coast Conference, at 1 p.m. Wednesday. It’s the first time the Great Danes are hosting the Irish in any sport.
