Madison Conwayand Sam Tortora each had a pair of goals for the University at Albany women’s lacrosse team, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a big halftime deficit in a 17-7 loss to No. 17 Penn State on Sunday at Casey Stadium.
The Nittany Lions (4-3), of the Big Ten, built a 13-3 halftime lead after scoring four straight to goals heading into the intermission.
The teams were tied at 1 after Powlin’s goal two minutes into the game. But Penn State ran off six straight over a 7-minute, 14-second stretch to open a 7-1 advantage with 13:53 left before the intermission.
The Nittany Lions later had a seven-goal run bridging the first and second halves to lead by as many as 14.
The Great Danes scored the game’s final four goals, including two from Tortora.
UAlbany embarks on a West Coast trip this week, facing UC Davis on Thursday and Fresno State on Saturday. Both games will be played in Fresno, Calif.
