ALBANY, N.Y. – Scoring a game-winning goal in two victories with under 20 seconds left last week, Dakotah Savitcheff has been honored as the Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week, the publication announced on Monday.
Twice last week, Savitcheff was the hero for UAlbany. She began with the last two goals in the final 20 seconds at then #8/8 Cornell, sending UAlbany to an 11-10 victory with the tying and go-ahead goals. Then on Saturday, she netted a free-position goal with 18 seconds left for the game-winning goal in a 9-8 victory vs. New Hampshire.
Savitcheff is the second UAlbany women’s lacrosse player to earn national player of the week honors from US Lacrosse Magazine. Sarah Martin was the publication’s player of the week on February 20th after a 10-goal game vs. Yale.
UAlbany is the only women’s program across Division I with multiple National Player of the Week selections by US Lacrosse Magazine this season.
On the season, the senior attack has 37 goals in 10 games, currently standing fourth in Division I with 3.7 goals per contest. She has three game-winning goals on the year and shoots 61.7%, 8th in Division I.
Savitcheff and the Great Danes are getting prepared for a Wednesday afternoon matchup at Dartmouth at 3 p.m.
