The Great Danes captured the first win of the America East Tournament 5-0 over UC Davis in the quarterfinals. UAlbany dominated the entire game hogging possession from the Aggies. Scoring for UAlbany began in the 8th minute from Ghislaine Beerkens. As the Great Danes crowded the UC Davis goal, a shot was fired off of a UAlbany stick. The Aggie goalkeeper recorded the save, but directed the ball back at Beerkens standing in front of the goal. Beerkens shot the ball into the left corner of the goal to start the Great Danes off 1-0.
The second goal of the game came with just one minute remaining in the first half. Beerkens again in front of the goal was faced one on one with the goalie. With patience, Beerkens crossed to the right and found the opportunity for the easy shot to end the half 2-0 UAlbany.
In the second half UAlbany added 15 more shots. In the 38th minute, UAlbany was able to earn a penalty corner. Frederike Helmke inserted the corner to Katie MacCallum. Taking a dribble MacCallum spotted Dana Bozek in the upper left hand corner of the circle. Bozek powered the ball through the defenders, bouncing it off the back of the goal to increase the lead 3-0.
Moving forward in the 51st minute Anna Bottino and Cosima Rocktaeschel worked together seamlessly, passing back and forth through UC Davis. As Bottino took the first shot, Rocktaeschel continued to advance to the goal. Bottino’s shot was returned to her by the Aggies’ goalkeeper. Bottino then spotted and passed to Rocktaeschel who was able to score to the right of the keeper.
Finally, the last goal of the game came from Katie MacCallum. MacCallum scored off of a rebound, that she was able to tip in.
