#20 Field Hockey to Honor Seniors Hosting Maine and Vermont this Weekend
ALBANY, N.Y.—The Great Dane field hockey team will conclude their regular season home contests this weekend on Friday, October 20th vs. Vermont, and senior day on Sunday, October 22nd vs. Maine.

The Great Danes are on a five-game win streak, which began on October 1st in a 4-1 victory over UVM in Burlington, Vermont. Most recently, the Great Danes claimed a 4-2 redemption against UMass Lowell on Sunday, October 15th. UAlbany outshot the River Hawks 19-9. Freshman Ghislaine Beerkens was a dominating factor securing the win with two goals.
On Sunday, October 22nd the Great Danes will honor their two senior members of the squad, Anna Bottino and Kelsey Briddell. Before the Sunday’s contest there will be a brief ceremony on the field. Both Bottino and Briddell are primary four-year starters with many accolades.
Bottino was the 2014 America East Rookie of the Year and most recently in 2015 she was named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team.
Meanwhile, Briddell is a three-time NFHCA National Academic Squad member, named to the list since 2014. In 2016, Briddell was named to the America East All-Academic Team.
SCOUTING VERMONT (5-9)
This season Vermont is 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the America East with a win over UNH in double overtime. The Catamounts have scored 23 goals this season and have recorded 88 saves compared to their opponents 83. Against New Hampshire, Vermont took 11 shots on goal and earned eight penalty corners. UVM sophomore Rachel Phillips scored the game-winning goal 1:10 into the second overtime period.
Player to Watch: Landon Warren is the Catamount’s point and goal leader with 11 goals and 22 points.
Against UAlbany: Warren scored Vermont’s lone goal in the 4-1 UAlbany victory in Burlington, VT on October 1, 2017. UAlbany goals came from Ghislaine Beerkens (2), Katie MacCallum (1), and Frederike Helmke (1). All-time against Vermont, the Great Danes lead the series 17-5.
SCOUTING MAINE (9-4)
Overall, Maine is 9-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference. Maine is on a two-game win streak taking down conference opponents Vermont (4-0) and New Hampshire (4-3). Against opponents the Black Bears have recorded 45 goals, compared to competitors’ 22. On average, Maine has outshot opponents 18.7 to 7.4 shots per game, resulting in 3.46 goals per game.
Players to Watch: Brianna Ricker and Libby Riedl lead the team with 23 and 22 points respectively. Ricker leads the team with 10 goals, while Riedl is the assist leader (10). Against Vermont, both recorded a goal each.
Against UAlbany: The Great Danes lead the Black Bears in the all-time series 16-9. These teams last met in Orono, Maine on October 6th when the Great Danes were able to pull off a 1-0 shutout against the Black Bears. Ghislaine Beerkens recorded the UAlbany goal by dribbling around defenders and hitting a shot in the left side of the goal.
