RECAP
It was a tough fought game but the Great Danes had the upper hand when controlling the offensive flow. However, Maine statistically earned more corners and took more shots. Maine started with energy and attacked throughout the entire game.

In the 59h minute, UAlbany had a great opportunity. Katie MacCallum broke away with the ball in a one-on-one situation with the goalie. However, Maine’s goalkeeper intercepted both MacCallum and the ball making a great defensive stop.
It was not until the 64th minute where UAlbany took the lead. Ghislaine Beerkens dribbled around defenders to put herself just outside the left of the goal. When the goalkeeper advanced, Beerkens shot the ball in the high right back corner of the net. The Great Danes did a fantastic job in the last five minutes defending the goal and holding their lead. The final buzzer signaled a Great Dane 1-0 victory over the Maine Black Bears.

COMMENTS FROM THE COACHING STAFF
"Tough conference game today.  We were fortunate to get out of there with a win. Our saving grace was our goalie Melissa Nealon. She held down the fort well.  We got going late in the game and created some good opportunities. Ghislaine had an inspired moment late, as she dribbled around three players and shot a great backhand into the roof of the goal for the game winner," said head coach Phil Sykes.

"I was proud of our team today, how they competed even though we weren't at our best. Dana Bozek had a strong game at center midfield and distributed well throughout the game.  She created some good attack late as well. This was a big conference win for us today and it will hopefully create some good momentum going forward," said Sykes.

NEXT UP
The Great Danes will return home and prepare for the Fairfield Stags. Both teams will be found on Alumni Turf at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 8th.
