Dana Bozek Named Midfielder of the Year, FH Draws 10 Selections
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany field hockey team was well-represented among this year’s America East All-Conference Awards, dominating with six players drawing 10 selections including Midfielder of the Year.
The Great Danes (11-7) earned these awards on their way to a spot in the America East Tournament for the 14th consecutive year. The conference tournament begins Thursday at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.
Senior Dana Bozek was named Midfielder of the Year for her effort leading the Great Dane offense. Bozek has started all 18 games for UAlbany and paces the team with a career-high 34 points and 14 goals. Bozek, who ranks at the top of the conference in goals and points per game, was also tabbed to the East Division All-Conference First Team. The Cortlandt, N.Y. native has garnered All-Conference honors in each of her four years at UAlbany, earning First Team honors in 2017 and 2018 and All-Rookie Team accolades in 2016.
The Great Danes placed five student-athletes on the East Division All-Conference Team with Bozek, Melissa Nealon and Kelsey McCrudden logging First Team status and Katie MacCallum and Julie Rodijk earning Second Team honors.
Nealon is now a two-time First Team honoree after earning the distinction in 2018. The redshirt-senior has started all 18 games for UAlbany, picking up 67 saves, with only 23 goals allowed, for a 1.29 goals-against average and a .744 save percentage.
McCrudden, a sophomore, is UAlbany’s top playmaker with 14 assists on the year. The back ranks fifth in the NCAA with 0.82 points per game and is tied for eighth in program history in single-season assists.
MacCallum boasts an impressive junior career with nine goals and seven points for 25 points. Rodijk, a freshman, made an immediate impact this season, starting 15 games on the backline for the Great Danes, helping the team to six shutouts. Rodijk also earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team.
UAlbany placed four student-athletes on the All-Academic Team, with Bozek, Nealon and McCrudden joined by junior Carli Pelletier. A two-time All-Academic honoree, Pelletier owns a 3.79 GPA in Psychology.
UAlbany opens tournament play on Thursday, Nov. 7 against Stanford at 1:30 p.m. Semifinals are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8, followed by Sunday’s championship game.
