2019 Schedule

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany field hockey team will play a balanced, but challenging schedule this coming season as the Great Danes announced their 2019 opponents on Wednesday afternoon.

This year’s slate includes seven home games to be held at Alumni Turf and features five matchups against 2018 NCAA Tournament participants, including a home contest against the defending National Champion North Carolina.

As a team we always want to grow and evolve throughout the year,” said Head Coach Phil Sykes. “I have set up this schedule to challenge and prepare us well for conference play. I think we have a quality team this year who will be up for the challenge.”

The 2019 season gets underway on the road at 2016 National Champion Delaware on Aug. 30. The Great Danes battle Miami of Ohio (Aug. 31), a 2018 NCAA Tournament participant, the next day in a neutral site contest.

UAlbany kicks off home action on Sept. 6 against perennial foe Harvard. The women in purple went a perfect 9-0 last season in friendly confines and are 38-8 at home dating back to 2014.

Sykes' squad will then hit the road for a five-game road stint. The Great Danes kick off their longest road swing of the year with highly anticipated contests at 2018 Final Four participant Princeton (Sept. 13) and Massachusetts (Sept. 14). The squad will then stop at Colgate in a midweek matchup on Sept. 17, before squaring off against a pair of Rhode Island foes in Brown (Sept. 21) and Bryant (Sept. 22).

The final week of September features home contests against Sacred Heart (Sept. 27) and Wagner (Sept. 29).

The first America East contest of the year pits the Great Danes on the road against Vermont (Oct. 4) before UAlbany faces Columbia (Oct. 6) in non-conference action.

UAlbany returns home for four of its final six contests to face America East opponent New Hampshire (Oct. 11) and reigning champion North Carolina (Oct. 13) before taking on Cornell (Oct. 20) and UMass Lowell (Nov. 3) to conclude the regular season.

The Great Danes will head to Monmouth (Oct. 18) and Maine (Oct. 25) in a rematch of last season’s America East Championship.

UAlbany will vie for its second straight conference tournament title and fourth in the last six years as the America East Tournament will be played from Nov. 7- 10, hosted by the league’s regular season champion. NCAA Tournament first and second rounds will be played Nov. 15 and Nov. 17 at host schools with the NCAA Final Four starting Nov. 22 and the Championship match set for Nov. 24 at Wake Forest.
