The win was the 200th for Phil Sykes who is in his 15th season as the Great Danes’ head coach and now has a career record of 200-98 at UAlbany. Associate head coach Andy Thornton also celebrated the milestone as he has stood beside Sykes for all 200 victories. The duo has celebrated five America East Tournament Championships and a trip to the Final Four in 2014.

"It's a great accomplishment to be able to reach. I'm glad I could do it with Andy by my side and we have had alot of great players come through this program that have helped us get to where we are today."

Head Coach Phil Sykes

"Since my time here, UNH has always been one of our biggest rivals. I know coming into today that no matter how their season was going it was going to be a tough game. The way was going with us missing here and there that the outcome of this game would come down to a moment like it did. It's great to get the win and for our players its always a nice confidence booster to do it in overtime."

"Anybody can beat anybody in conference play so that can make you nerovuse. Last year we beat them twice but they got us in the tournament which put them in the championship game so it was good to get the win today."

  • Finn Caron broke open the scoring at 39:25.

The win was the 200th for Phil Sykes who is in his 16th season as the Great Danes’ head coach and now has a career record of 200-98 at UAlbany. Associate head coach Andy Thorton also celebrated the milestone as he has been beside Sykes for all 200 victories.

"Since my time here, UNH has always been one of our biggest rivals," said Sykes. "I know coming into today that no matter how their season was going it was going to be a tough game. The two team battled to a 0-0 gridlock at the break despite relentless offensive pressure from the Great Danes who outshot the Wildcats, 10-2.

In the second half, UAlbany fell behind 1-0, when New Hampshire’s Finn Caron delivered a big goal for the Wildcats. The Great Danes continued to pressure the New Hampshire defensive zone until finally breaking through for an equalizer. Helmke sent in a shot from the top of the circle past Rudert for the goal, which came in the 44th minute.

UAlbany, which owned advantage in shots (17-5) and penalty (9-3) at the end of regulation, seemed poised to win the game outright, but a late goal was called back, bringing the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Great Danes recorded all two shots. The second shot off the period led to Burchell’s goal and second straight win for the squad.
