UAlbany built on its first half lead thanks to a pair of goals by Bozek. The forward notched her first hattrick of the year scoring at 56:49 before sending a reverse sweep into the back of the cage for her fourth tally of the game.
Beerkens rounded out the Great Dane scoring with an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute.
Helmke dished out a pair of helpers in the tilt.
Colgate’s goalkeeper Anna Unger stopped 11 shots in the contest and Nicole Salamone recorded the team’s only shot.
Coach Sykes: "It was a good early season game us. We had snippets of a sloppy half but we also put together a very good second half. One of our goals for this game was to stay disciplined and keep our pace during the whole game. We got caught up in their fast-paced style but once we settled and slowed the game down we were able to capitalize and score some goals and do a lot of good things.”
“It’s always good to play at home. We have had a fair amount of success at home. We have a good and positive crowd supporting us and its always nice to get a win.”
Next Up: The Great Dane head back on the road for a nonconference tilt at Sacred Heart. The contest is slated to begin at 2 p.m. (ET).
