Field hockey releases 2018 schedule
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany field hockey team has released its 2018 schedule, a slate that includes three games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents and nine home games on Alumni Turf Field.
"We are excited for this upcoming season," said UAlbany head coach Phil Sykes. "This is a challenging schedule that will test us well prior to our conference games. Several ACC teams as well as 2016 National Champion Delaware will be visiting the UAlbany campus in 2018."
The Great Danes begin the season Aug. 26 at Syracuse, a 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier. Two weeks later, they face their second ACC opponent, Boston College, on Sept. 9 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. And on Oct. 21, Louisville visits UAlbany in the programs' first meeting since 2012.
UAlbany is coming off a 12-7 season that included a 6-2 mark in the America East. The Great Danes faced both Syracuse and Boston College in Albany last season, falling to the Orange, 2-0, and the Eagles, 2-1, in overtime.
The Great Danes’ 2018 home opener will be Sept. 1 against Colgate. In October, UAlbany has a five game homestand that begins with an Oct. 5 match against UMass Lowell and concludes with the Louisville game.
Other non-conference opponents include Sacred Heart, Bryant, Lafayette, Delaware and Holy Cross before UAlbany begins play in the America East.
The league tournament will be held in November in Stanford, Calif., with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
