#21 Field Hockey to Host Undefeated #16 BU and #5 Syracuse
ALBANY, N.Y.— No. 21 UAlbany Field Hockey will host two top twenty undefeated teams this weekend, No. 16 Boston University and No. 5 Syracuse University.
The Great Danes will enter this weekend 1-2 on the season. Last weekend UAlbany beat Holy Cross 5-3 with two goals in the second half from freshman Ghislaine Beerkens. Camryn Dias also earned four points against the Crusaders with a goal and two assists.
Friday, September 8, 2017: No. 16 Boston University at 1 P.M.
Sunday, September 10, 2017: No. 5 Syracuse University at 1 P.M.
The Boston University Terriers are 4-0 on the season including a 1-0 win over America East opponent New Hampshire. The Terriers were picked to finish second in the Patriot League, matching their 2016 finish behind American.
Players to watch: Junior back Ally Hammel was named the 2017 Preseason Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Grace Boston is the Terriers’ current point leader with two goals for the season.
Against UAlbany: The last time Boston University faced UAlbany was in 2012 when the Danes fell 2-1.
The Syracuse Orange are 5-0 on the season with two wins over America East West Region teams, California and Pacific. Last season, Syracuse fell in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament 3-2 to UCONN in double overtime.
Players to Watch: Freshman forward Carolin Hoffmann leads ‘Cuse in points with five goals this season. Against Pacific, Hoffmann landed a hat trick in the 3-0 victory. Additionally, senior back Lies Lagerweij was named to the First Team All-ACC Preseason Poll after her 2016 First Team All-America selection. This season she accounted for two goals, with a total of four points.
Against UAlbany: Last time Syracuse and UAlbany matched up was in 2014 with a 2-1 score resulting in a Syracuse victory.
