UAlbany Field Hockey Unanimous Pick to Win League’s East Division in 2016 Preseason Coaches Poll
ALBANY, N.Y. – The two-time defending America East champion UAlbany field hockey team has been unanimously predicted to win the conference’s East Division in the 2016 season in the preseason coaches poll.
UAlbany won its second consecutive America East Tournament last year after earning the 1-seed from the East Division, tying with Maine at 7-1 in league play. The team finished 19-3 overall, the second straight year the Great Danes have won at least 19 games.
It is the fourth straight season where UAlbany was picked #1 in the preseason poll. It is the second time UAlbany was selected #1 in the East Division in as many years that the America East has been split into two divisions.
UAlbany received all four possible first place votes, with coaches unable to vote for their own team, to earn 16 points in the poll to be at the top of the East Division. Maine got the other first-place vote for 13 points in the East Division, with the poll rounding out with New Hampshire at 10 points, Vermont at 6 points and UMass Lowell at 5 points.
The polls were voted on by the America East head coaches. Each coach predicted the order of the other teams in its own division.
In the league’s West Division, Stanford was the unanimous pick with three first-place votes for nine points. Pacific was second with a first-place vote and seven points while California and UC Davis each tied for four points.
UAlbany begins the 2016 season on Friday, August 26th at 3 p.m. when it hosts Hofstra on the Alumni Turf.
