ALBANY, N.Y. — Five University at Albany men’s lacrosse alumni dazzled a sellout crowd of 6,472 fans at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium, as the Premier Lacrosse League brought its inaugural season tour to New York’s capital on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Playing for the Chaos Team, Miles Thompson scored twice while Troy Reh, Kyle McClancy and Connor Fields all had a goal apiece in a 12-9 defeat to the Atlas. Blaze Riorden, the Chaos goalkeeper, made 13 saves.
The crowd roared all evening long for the former Great Danes competing and thronged the purple ramp for more than 30 minutes after the game to collect autographs.
“I loved everything about being home,” Riorden said. “Once a Great Dane, forever a great Danes. … A big thank you to all the UAlbany fans and especially Coach Marr.”
UAlbany has eight alumni competing in the league. Brett Queener and Ty Thompson are on the Chrome team, which plays at 1:30 Sunday afternoon against the Redwoods. The final game of the weekend, between the Whipsnakes and Archers, begins at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
“I’m just so proud of how they carry themselves and what they’re doing for lacrosse,” said Scott Marr, UAlbany’s head coach. “Twenty years ago, I never thought I’d be standing here, with a professional league and eight of my guys out here playing this weekend. It’s really gratifying, and I’ve been so blessed to be surrounded by so many great people.”
