LOS ANGELES — University at Albany alum Blaze Riorden traded his goalie stick for a short stick and scored a pair of goals Sunday, July 21, in the Premier Lacrosse League All-Star Game.
Riorden, who plays forward in the National Lacrosse League, wields the PLL’s top save percentage as a goalie. He has stopped 55.2 percent of the shots he’s faced to backstop the Chaos, a team that includes five other UAlbany alumni. But Sunday, he played the entire second quarter outside the cage and also picked up an assist.
Of course, UAlbany fans also will recall Riorden scored a goal — as a goalie — in a victory at Cornell in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. He was nominated for an ESPY award for his end-to-end dash across the field that resulted in a score.
Riorden was one of three UAlbany alumni chosen to play in the All-Star game, which took place at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. Joining him were Chrome teammates Connor Fields, who leads the PLL with 16 goals, and Miles Thompson (nine goals, six assists).
All three of the Great Danes’ PLL All-Stars — along with Kyle McClancy, Troy Reh, Brett Queener, Ty Thompson and Joe Resetarits — will be back at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Aug. 24-25. For more information about the three-game weekend, CLICK HERE. To purchase tickets, CLICK HERE.
