In a thrilling championship to finish the tournament, Canada fell on a goal in the final seconds as the USA won 9-8. Merrick Thomson ’07 served as Canada’s offensive coordinator, helping the team return to the FIL title game.
Iroquois Nationals 14, Australia 12
The Iroquois Nationals take the bronze medal for the second straight FIL Championship, holding off a late comeback attempt to defeat Australia 14-12. Lyle Thompson ’15 had two assists, Ty Thompson ’14 scored a goal while Tehoka Nanticoke finished with an assist.
Israel 12, Puerto Rico 1
Israel won its final game of the tournament 12-1 over Puerto Rico. The host team takes 7th place in the tournament while the upstart Puerto Rico finishes in eighth.
Israel takes 7th with the help of Eric Cantor ’15 on defense and offensive coordinator Eric Wolf ’07, while Puerto Rico earns 8th with players Kevin McNally ’16, Steve Ramirez and Will Ramos. Ramos was the goalie for Puerto Rico is this game, earning 11 saves.
Jamaica 10, Wales 7
After going 1-1 in pool play, Jamaica ends the tournament on a six-game winning streak, defeating Wales 10-7 to end in 13th place in the championship. Niyan Oladipo ’01 helped Jamaica earn its top finish ever in the FIL championship.
Norway 10, Latvia 9
In the 17th place game, Latvia’s late comeback came up short as the team fell to Norway 10-9. Eli Lasda ’17 had another hat trick, adding two loose balls, while Riley Lasda ’15 had two loose balls.
