Men's lacrosse travels to Baltimore to face UMBC
BALTIMORE – The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team looks to continue its undefeated run on Friday, April 6th, heading back to Maryland to play conference foe UMBC for a 7 p.m. game.
This is a rescheduled game, having been moved up from Saturday due to expected inclement weather in the Baltimore area.
The game at UMBC Stadium will be broadcast live on AmericaEast.tv.
UAlbany stands as the unanimous #1 in each the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Poll, being #1 for the sixth consecutive week. UMBC is not ranked in either poll.
UAlbany stands alone in first place in the America East at 3-0 after defeating Stony Brook on Saturday 13-7, entering undefeated at 10-0. UMBC is trying to snap a four-game losing streak, last falling at UMass Lowell 10-7 on March 31st. UMBC comes in at 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the America East.
UAlbany has won eight straight matchups vs. UMBC, the last a 10-5 victory in Albany on April 8, 2017. UAlbany leads the all-time series 12-10, including wins in the 2013 and 2014 AE title games.
This is UAlbany's last game until April 20th.
UALBANY UNANIMOUS #1 IN COACHES POLL, MEDIA POLL: For the sixth straight week, UAlbany stands at #1 in the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Poll. After the win over #2 Maryland on March 10th, UAlbany has since earned every first place vote in each poll.
The Great Danes have been ranked in the top-16 of both polls each week since May 2, 2014. In the preseason, UAlbany was #3 in each the coaches poll and the media poll.
UALBANY - LONGEST CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK IN DI: With five consecutive undefeated regular seasons, UAlbany has the longest active winning streak in conference games with 31, dating back to 2013.
UAlbany is the only DI team to go undefeated in league play in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Two schools, UAlbany and Denver, had undefeated conference regular seasons the past four years.
UAlbany formerly had a streak of 28 victories against America East opponents until May 5, 2016 after a 11-10 overtime defeat to Hartford in the America East Tournament semifinal round.

TOP SCORING DEFENSE IN DIVISION I: UAlbany has the top scoring defense in Division I, allowing seven goals per game, including eight out of 10 games where the team has allowed single digit goals. JD Colarusso is #1 in DI with a 6.18 goals allowed average and a 64.1% save rate.
SIX GREAT DANES NAMED IL MEDIA MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICANS: Six UAlbany players were named to the Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-America Team. This was the most amount of midseason All-Americans in program history.
Attack Connor Fields, goalkeeper JD Colarusso and faceoff specialist TD Ierlan were selected to the All-America First Team, midfielder Kyle McClancy was placed on the Second Team, while attack Tehoka Nanticoke and close defender Stone Sims are Honorable Mention All-America.
IERLAN EARNS UALBANY DI GROUND BALL RECORD: As UAlbany's primary faceoff player, TD Ierlan has earned the program's DI ground ball record. The sophomore stands with 353 career ground balls, passing the DI record set by Jordan Levine, who had 321 ground balls from 2005-08, on March 28th.
Ierlan currently stands #1 in Division I with an 83.8% faceoff rate, over 8% more than second place Trevor Baptiste of Denver, and first with 15.1 ground balls per game, over two more than any other player in DI.
100-POINT WATCH: UAlbany comes into 2018 with two 100-point scorers, and others are approaching that mark. Kyle McClancy joined the 100-point club this season to give UAlbany three 100-point scorers.

53 WINS FOR THE UALBANY SENIOR CLASS: The current members of the UAlbany senior class have won 53 games in their time with a record of 53-10. That stands second in Division I, only behind Maryland's 56.
The winningest class in UAlbany history graduated in 2017, with 56 victories in its four years.
SCOUTING THE UMBC RETRIEVERS: UMBC finished second in the America East regular season last year.
The team has a pair of double digit goal-scorers: junior midfielder Billy Nolan stands with 11 goals and seven assists while freshman attack Steven Zichelli sports 10 goals and six assists. Attackmen Ryan Frawley and Trevor Patschorke each have nine goals. Sophomore Jake Brothers takes faceoffs, winning 45% with 30 ground balls.
UMBC is third in the league with an 8.89 goals allowed average. Freshman Tommy Lingner and senior David Pisanic have split time in goal, combining for a 44.8% save rate. Senior Billy O'Hara helps protect with a team-high 15 caused turnovers, adding 28 ground balls.
