OTTAWA, Ontario – Two players with UAlbany ties, Connor Fields and Bennett Drake, have been announced to the 2018 Team Canada tryout roster for the upcoming Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship.
Fields and Drake are two of 46 players that will compete for spots on Team Canada for the world championship in July. Each competed in a selection camp this weekend in Buffalo.
Fields holds dual citizenship with the USA and Canada, with his father being Canadian. The UAlbany senior attack was a Tewaaraton finalist last year with 117 points, the fourth-highest single season point total in Division I history, off 55 goals and 62 assists.
Drake, a native of Oshawa, Ontario, graduated from UAlbany in 2017. An America East All-Conference Second Team member this past season, he had 35 goals last year as a starter in the first midfield, concluding his career with 80 goals, 31 assists and 37 ground balls.
Earlier this week, UAlbany assistant coach Merrick Thomson was announced as an assistant coach for Team Canada.
The 2018 FIL Men’s World Championship will be held in Netanya, Israel from July 12-21. Team Canada is the defending world champion, defeating the United States 8-5 in the 2014 World Championship in Denver, Colorado. More than 50 nations are set to compete in the 2018 championships.
