UAlbany Students Help Raise Money with “No Shave November” for Bernard & Millie Children’s Foundation
ALBANY, N.Y. – This past November, UAlbany students Jon Martin, Sean McCleary and Brendan Chetuck formed the group “Beards with Benefits” for “No Shave November,” helping raise money for the Bernard & Millie Children’s Foundation.
Martin, a punter on the football team, McCleary, a student assistant on the football team, and Chetuck, a member of the men’s lacrosse team, formed the group to grow cancer awareness.
The group had the option of donating to any charity of its choice, and decided to help the Bernard & Millie Children’s Foundation. During November, the group raised $1,620 from teammates, classmates, friends and family members.
"The charitable leadership of Jon Martin, Sean McCleary, and Brendan Chetuck has humbled, but inspired us,” said Sharon Duker of the Bernard & Millie Children’s Foundation. “We hope it will inspire other young people to participate in the community in similar ways."
“We are blessed with the opportunity to not only play college sports, but to play in a beautiful stadium,” said Martin. “We wanted to donate to the Bernard & Millie Children’s Foundation because they have made an impact on the athletic program at UAlbany, which we all have benefited from greatly.”
Martin graduated this December from the UAlbany school of business. Chetuck will enter his redshirt junior season in lacrosse in 2017.
