Women's Golf Tees Off 2019 Fall Season at the Crosstown Challenge
ALBANY, N.Y.- The University at Albany women’s golf team is set to open its Fall 2019 campaign September 8th, competing in the Crosstown Challenge against Siena. The 18-hole match will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Wolfert’s Roost Country Club.
The Crosstown Challenge will be in the only home appearance during the fall season.
Coach Cashman-McSween: “We are really looking forward to starting our season this weekend and no better way to do it then with our home match against Siena. We always enjoy playing with them as well as love the competition. The team has competed quite a bit on their own this summer and we’ve been practicing hard since we have returned to school and I’m looking forward to seeing who is going to step up and lead the team this year! I hope that we get a good crowd to come out and watch because we don’t often get to play a home match with such beautiful weather! It is going to be a great day!”
Leading the Pack
- The Great earned three MAAC individual honors last season. Head Coach Colleen Cashman-McSween was named Coach of the Year, Madison Walker was Co-Rookie of the Year and Helga Einarsdottir made the league’s All Academic Team.
- Annika Espino was UAlbany’s high-scorer at the NCAA Regional in May, shooting 78-74-76-228 (+12)
- Madison Walker was also better than 80 throughout the NCAA Regional, finishing 76-74-79-229 (+13).
Crosstown Challenge Dominance
UAlbany defeated Siena in the Crosstown Challenge last year, which marked its fifth straight win in the competition, which is held each fall.
The Great Danes captured their second consecutive MAAC championship in April, winning the league tournament by 17 strokes. With the win, UAlbany earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history.
The Great Danes will continue their fall campaign at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.
