Recap

Three University at Albany women’s golfers shot 75 or better in the second round of the NCAA Auburn Regional on Tuesday, May 7, at Saugahatchee Country Club.

Freshman Madison Walker, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference co-Rookie of the Year, led the Great Danes for the second straight day, following her first-round 76 with a second-round 74. She’s tied for 46th at 6-over par.

Annika Espino also shot a 74, and Megan Henry finished with a 75.

UAlbany, seeded No. 17, is 18th (+37) as a team heading into Wednesday’s final round. But the Great Danes are just five strokes from 14th and eight behind 13th-place Clemson.

Walker, Henry and Espino all were even par on the back nine, combining for five birdies. Henry led the Great Danes with four birdies for the day.

Coach Colleen Cashman-McSween

"It was definitely nice to see three solid rounds of golf under 75. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get that fourth score we needed to reach our team golf of the day of shooting 300. We are playing tough, and we are making plenty of up and downs. We just need to hit more greens to give ourselves more chances to make birdies out there.

"I'm proud of Madison for playing tough and leading the way as a freshman playing in her first NCAA Regional. Wednesday, we have nowhere to go but up! It would definitely be nice to beat a few teams and finish out the season on a high note."
