BEDMINSTER, N.J. – Freshman Annika Espino tied for 21st overall in a 77-athlete field, leading the University at Albany women’s golf team to a 10th place finish at Seton Hall’s Pirate Invitational. The Great Danes shot a 368-332—700 in the 36-hole tournament at Trump National.
South Dakota State (326-306—632) took the team title, followed by Lamar (336-310—646) and Seton Hall (341-317—658) in the top three.
After a blustery first day of competition, Espino cut 10 strokes off her first round score, shooting 89-79—168 to lead the Great Danes. Freshman Caroline Juillat followed with a 177 (92-85), tying for 47th, while senior Paige Fujihara (97-81) and freshman Megan Henry (91-87) finished one shot back with 178’s. Senior Yoorim Kang (96-91) rounded out UAlbany’s lineup with a 187.
The tournament marked the final competition of the 2016 fall season for UAlbany. The Great Danes will return to action in the spring, leading up to the 2017 MAAC Women’s Golf Championship, which is set for April 20-23 at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
