ALBANY, N.Y. – Coming off a win over Siena College, the University at Albany women’s golf team looks to repeat its last year’s performance at the Quinnipiac Classic in Hamden, Conn. The Great Danes, who claimed the tournament title in 2015, will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday at New Haven Country Club.
THE FIELD UAlbany will take on an 11-team field, including St. John's, Navy, Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut State, Monmouth, Hartford, LIU-Brooklyn, Hofstra, Fairfield, and the hosting Bobcats.
LAST YEAR’S TOURNAMENT With a three-round score of 927, UAlbany placed first in the 11-team Quinnipiac Classic. After recording a 313 in the opening round, the Great Danes shot back-to-back 307s in Monday’s second 18 and Tuesday’s final go-around at New Haven Country Club. Annie Songeun Lee placed first overall with a 226 (76-75-75), playing consistently throughout the tournament. Paige Fujihara followed with a third-place finish in the field consisting of 57 competitors. With a 228 (80-72-76), Fujihara’s second-round 72 marked a career-best performance.Yoorim Kang rounded out UAlbany’s top-10 finishers, tying for eighth with a 232 (76-81-85).
LAST TIME OUT The Great Danes carded a 318, overcoming crosstown rival Siena (337) by 19 strokes Sunday afternoon at Albany Country Club. UAlbany senior Paige Fujiara tied with Siena’s Kristen Bromley for the individual title, both shooting a +6 78. Junior Annie Songeun Lee and freshman Megan Henry finished one stroke back with 79’s, followed by senior Rosalee Hearns’ 82 and freshman Annika Espino’s 83 to close out the Great Danes’ official lineup.
UP NEXT UAlbany will compete in the Delaware Lady Blue Hens Invitational at Rehoboth Country Club Oct. 22-23.
