CAMBRIDGE, MASS. -- University at Albany's Ebone Henry and Shereesha Richards were named the America East Conference Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday morning. It is Henry's first weekly award this season, while Richards has now won the last three rookie of the week honors.
Henry made her homecoming to Southern California by leading the Great Danes to a 1-1 record at the Long Beach Classic. The senior averaged 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game in two contests. In an overtime loss to Sam Houston State, Henry scored a career-high 29 points on 12-of-25 shooting from the floor, including four 3-pointers. She also added seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. In a win against Canisius, Henry scored 20 points to go along with five boards, five helpers, three steals, and one block. She shot 46.5 percent (20-43) in the two games.
Richards averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the two contests. After a slow outing in the overtime loss to Sam Houston State, where she managed just two points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal, Richards was back to form against Canisius. She scored 15 points against the Golden Griffins, to go along with seven boards and a career-high seven assists. Richards shot 57.1 percent (8-14) from the floor in the two games, and did not commit a turnover in 33 total minutes of action.
