Men's Basketball Picked Fourth In Preseason Conference Poll
ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany men's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the 2012-13 America East Conference season, which was voted on by all nine coaches. Great Dane senior guard Mike Black was selected as one of the six players to the All-Conference team.
Black, a Chicago, Ill. native, is the conference's active leading scorer (1,024) and assist man (299 assists). The senior co-captain acknowledges that this is his team and will look to lead his squad into battle for the 2012-13 season as the team's returning leading scorer, averaging 13.4 points per game last season.
UAlbany looks to improve on its 19-15 overall record from last season. The Great Danes return eight letterwinners and bring in three junior college transfers to boost an experienced squad.
One of UAlbany's returners, Jayson Guerrier, finished last season as the most accurate shooter from behind the arc in the America East. Guerrier shot 42.3 percent (41-97) from three-point range. The Great Danes also return fifth-year senior guard Jacob Iati, who blossomed towards the end of the season. Iati recorded three 20-point games in the final seven games of the season that he started.
UAlbany opens the 2012-13 regular season against Duquesne on Friday, Nov. 9 in the SEFCU Arena. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
