Men’s Soccer Drops Mid-Week Game at Iona 2-0



ALBANY, N.Y.- The University at Albany men’s soccer team (0-3-1) suffered a 2-0 loss at Iona on Tuesday.

“We’d like to do better in the first half,” said head coach Trevor Gorman. “Our response was great, hitting the post twice and generating nine second-half shots. We need to keep working hard to make the luck go our way.”

Iona scored their first goal in the 27th minute on a header off a corner kick. UAlbany looked to strike back less than 10 minutes later. Sophomore Ivan Martinez hit the post after being subbed in following the goal by the Gaels.

On the first set play if the second half, Thomas Manz headed a shot wide off of a corner from Pomare Te Anau. Brandon Wilson and Jonathan Interiano fired two shots on goal in the next 10 minutes.

Iona’s Samuel Adjei charged down the field and scored in the 76th minute to give the Gaels a 2-0 lead.  

The Great Danes were out-shot 10-3 in the first half, but out-shot the Gaels in the second half 9-5. UAlbany also took no corner kicks in the first half, but earned four in the second session.

UAlbany returns to the Capital Region on Friday for a 8 p.m., contest against Bucknell at Frank Bailey Stadium on the Union College campus.
