UAlbany Sports Information   01-29-2018

NEW ORLEANS – The University at Albany men’s and women’s track & field teams earned matching rankings of seventh in the latest Northeast regional poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Monday. The men fell one spot from their position in Week 1 but the women jumped four spots to break into the top 10 for the first time this season.

Connecticut held steady atop the men’s poll. Syracuse took second, jumping 12 spots from their position last week. Cornell jumped one spot to third, and Rhode Island jumped one spot to fourth. Army fell three spots, rounding out the top five. Iona saw the biggest improvement of any team, improving 13 spots to break into the poll at 15th. Within the America East, UMass Lowell fell one spot to 12th and New Hampshire fell two spots to 14th.

Like the men’s poll, the women’s poll saw turnover at every spot except the top. Dartmouth retained their top ranking from last week. Behind the Big Green, Syracuse jumped three spots to second, Harvard jumped 11 spots to third, Brown fell one spot to fourth, and Columbia jumped five spots to fifth. Harvard improved more than any other team this week. In the America East, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire each broke into the poll at 12th and 13th, respectively.

The men’s team now holds seven top-eight performances in the Northeast, four of which came last weekend. Sidney Gibbons ranks second in the 60m hurdles in 7.82. Kingsley Ogbonna ranks second in the high jump in 6-11.50. Devon Willis ranks third in the triple jump in 50-08.00. Finally, the men’s distance medley relay ranks third in 9:57.06.

The women also have seven top-eight performances, six of which are new. Dayleen Santana Rodriguez ranks second in the 60m in 7.42. Stephanie Osuji ranks third in the 200m in 24.03 and sixth in the 60m in 7.54. The women’s distance medley relay ranks third in 11:48.31. Tara Belinsky ranks fourth in the shot put in 48-11.00. Finally, the women’s 4x400m relay ranks eighth in 3:49.90.

The Great Danes return to Boston this weekend for the Harvard Crimson Elite Invitational and the Boston University Scarlet & White Meet.
