UAlbany Softball Predicted To Finish 5th In AE
ALBANY, N.Y. – The defending America East Tournament champion UAlbany softball team has been predicted to finish fifth in the league in the 2018 season in the preseason coaches poll, announced on Tuesday.
UAlbany had one first place vote in the poll with a total of 22 points. UAlbany was one point behind Stony Brook, who also got one first place vote along with 23 points total.
UAlbany head coach Chris Cannata is set for her twenty-fourth season with the Great Danes. She has helped the UAlbany Great Danes win six America East Tournament titles. Last year, UAlbany picked up its sixth America East championship title, defeating Maine 6-1 in the tournament final to win the championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament. UAlbany finished 27-18 overall and 8-7 in the America East.
The preseason poll is voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Binghamton got 33 points and four first place votes, putting them in the first place slot in the poll. Maine was predicted to come in second with 26 points, tied with UMass Lowell who also received 26 points in addition to one first place vote. UMBC takes sixth place with 10 points, followed by Hartford in seventh place with seven points.
UAlbany kicks off the 2018 season in Madeira Beach, Florida on Friday, February 23rd at 4:00pm against Rhode Island.
